Health Information Exchange (HIE)

The Sub-State HIEs of Michigan

The Michigan Sub-State HIEs are designed to facilitate clinical and public health data exchange among providers and public health agencies throughout the state.

Currently there are six qualified sub-state HIEs that will be linked to each other through the Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services (MiHIN) backbone. For more information on how to participate in data exchange and electronically reporting public health data through a sub-state HIE, please visit any of the six sub-state HIE websites listed below.
 


 
Great Lakes Health Information Exchange - GLHIE (Formerly known as Capital Area RHIO):


GLHIE Organizational Summary:
The Great Lakes Health Information Exchange, founded on principles of community collaboration, provides the infrastructure for connecting the entire community of health care providers to achieve improvements in patient health and safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness of care.  Great Lakes HIE services are available throughout the State.

Michigan Health Connect - MHC

MHC Organization Summary:
Michigan Health Connect (MHC) is a Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) that facilitates and manages Health Information Exchange (HIE) services in the State of Michigan.  We are collaboratively and innovatively advancing the delivery and coordination of patient-centered healthcare across the state of Michigan.

Southeast Michigan HIE- SEMHIE

SEMHIE Organization Summary:
The Southeast Michigan Health Information Exchange (SEMHIE) is a multi-stakeholder consortium of diverse stakeholders, inclusive of six (6) major health systems, payers, employers, providers, quality organizations and safety net providers. SEMHIE will leverage existing and additional emerging technologies to innovate and improve information process flow for the secure sharing of data across networks within healthcare settings. The goal is to accelerate improvements in the quality and safety of care by using a continuity of care document, (CCD) and other standards as a vehicle for the sharing of discrete data elements and values within the healthcare community. SEMHIE will prove that the innovative technologies will result in decreasing costs and by achieving a self-sustaining health information exchange, create value and benefit to the community and to patients.
As a business model, SEMHIE intends to offer services and applications of value to the stakeholders and of benefit to the community for a negotiated fee.
